HAMAP: Bacillus thuringiensis (strain Al Hakam) complete proteome
General information

Species:  Bacillus thuringiensis (strain Al Hakam)
Species code: BACAH
Taxonomy: Bacteria; Firmicutes; Bacillales; Bacillaceae; Bacillus; Bacillus cereus group (TaxID: 412694) [NEWT/ NCBI]
Description: Bacillus thuringiensis is a Gram-positive, spore-forming bacterium that belongs to the B.cereus group along with Bacillus anthracis and Bacillus cereus. Bacillus thuringiensis is an insect pathogen that is widely used as a biopesticide in commercial agriculturedue to its various endogenous crystal proteins and spores. When insects ingest toxin crystals, the alkaline pH of their digestive tract activates the toxin. Cry inserts into the insect gut cell membrane, forming a pore. The pore results cell lysis and eventual death of the insect. Bacillus thuringiensis (strain Al Hakam) was collected at a suspected bioweapons facility in Iraq by the United Nations Special Commission. This genome does not contain homologs of the known cry, cyt or vip genes.
