HAMAP: Buchnera aphidicola subsp. Schizaphis graminum (strain Sg) complete proteome
General information

Species:  Buchnera aphidicola subsp. Schizaphis graminum (strain Sg)
Species code: BUCAP
Taxonomy: Bacteria; Proteobacteria; Gammaproteobacteria; Enterobacteriales; Enterobacteriaceae; Buchnera (TaxID: 198804) [NEWT/ NCBI]
Description: Pea aphids are a major agricultural pest, feeding on a variety of legumes (Fabaceae) worldwide. Plant phloem sap feeding insects such as pea aphids depend on their obligate endosymbionts to furnish them with essential amino acids and/or vitamin cofactors. Pea aphids have only one major, often sole microbial symbiont, Buchnera, a maternally-transmitted gammaproteobacteria related to the Enterobacteriaceae. Depending on the aphid-Buchnera pair the capacity to synthesize at least 5 essential amino acids can be shared between the 2 partners. The aphid-Buchnera association has persisted for at least 160 million years and is obligate for both partners. This strain is an endosymbiont of the aphid Schizaphis graminum. It has 2 plasmids; pLeu-Sg (AC AF041836) and a Trp plasmid, which is represented by AC Z21938 (adapted from PMIDs 12089438 and 21392141).
Properties: Presence of flagella: not known
Human pathogen: No
Interaction: Animal endosymbiont in Aphids (obligate endosymbiont)
Number of membranes: not known
Number of inteins:0
Statistics: Number of BUCAP entries in the UniProt Knowledgebase: 562 (562 in UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot + 0 in UniProtKB/TrEMBL)
