| Species code: | CORJK |
| Taxonomy: | Bacteria; Actinobacteria; Actinobacteridae; Actinomycetales; Corynebacterineae; Corynebacteriaceae; Corynebacterium (TaxID: 306537) [NEWT/ NCBI] |
| Description: | Bacteria from the genus Corynebacterium are Gram-positive, nonmotile rods which include both pathogenic and non-pathogenic species that can live in a large variety of habitats. In addition to being animal and human pathogens, they have been isolated from soil, plant material, waste water, and dairy products. Corynebacterium jeikeium is a multidrug-resistant bacterium of the human skin flora. It has been recognized as a serious nosocomial pathogen. It causes a variety of severe nosocomial infections, most frequently associated with immunocompromised patients. |
