| Description: | Cryptobacterium curtum strain DSM 15641, also known as CCUG 43107, is an asaccharolytic, opportunistic pathogen which occurs in the human oral cavity and is involved in dental and oral infections such as periodontitis, inflammation and abscesses. It is an obligate anaerobe and grows as very short and non-motile rods which form tiny translucent colonies of less than 1 mm in diameter on BHI-blood agar. Being asaccarolytic it does not metabolize carbohydrates and instead seems to utilize arginine via the arginine deiminase pathway. It was isolated in 1995 from the periodontal pocket of an adult patient with periodontal disease (adapted from PMID 21304644). |
