HAMAP: Desulfotomaculum reducens (strain MI-1) complete proteome
General information

Species:  Desulfotomaculum reducens (strain MI-1)
Species code: DESRM
Taxonomy: Bacteria; Firmicutes; Clostridia; Clostridiales; Peptococcaceae; Desulfotomaculum (TaxID: 349161) [NEWT/ NCBI]
Description: Desulfotomaculum reducens (strain MI-1) is a moderately halophilic anaerobic bacterium phylogenetically associated with the Firmicutes. Desulfotomaculum reducens was isolated from heavy metal-contaminated sediment collected at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard on the San Francisco Bay. Desulfotomaculum reducens is able to reduce uranium and chromium making it a potential agent for the bioremediation of heavy metals. The genome sequence of this organism will provide information on the mechanism and regulation of heavy metal reduction.
