| Description: |
Gluconobacter oxydans is a Gram-negative, rod-shaped and obligately aerobic bacterium. It is able to incompletely oxidize a wide range of carbohydrates and alcohols thanks to the oxidative fermentation. It can grow in highly concentrated sugar solutions and at low pH values. G.oxydans is used for the synthesis of Vitamin C, D-gluconic acid and ketogluconic acids. It dwells in flowers and fruits. It can also be found in alcoholic beverages such as wines and beers as well as soft drinks where it causes off-flavors and spoilage. |
