| HAMAP: Haemophilus somnus (strain 2336) (Histophilus somni (strain 2336)) complete proteome |
| Species code: | HAES2 |
| Taxonomy: | Bacteria; Proteobacteria; Gammaproteobacteria; Pasteurellales; Pasteurellaceae; Histophilus (TaxID: 228400) [NEWT/ NCBI] |
| Description: | Haemophilus somnus is the cause of a variety of systemic diseases in cattle, including thrombotic-meningoencephalitis, pneumonia, abortion and other reproductive diseases, arthritis, myocarditis, and septicemia. Diseases due to H. somnus account for millions of dollars in losses to the cattle industry, and are particularly prevalent in feedlots; additionally this agent may also affect dairy cattle. It may be the most economically important pathogen of feedlot cattle. Strain 2336 is a pathogenic, calf pneumonial isolate. It produces a more robust biofilm than the avirulent strain 129Pt (HAES1) which may contribute to its virulence. |
