| HAMAP: Idiomarina loihiensis (strain ATCC BAA-735 / DSM 15497 / L2-TR) complete proteome |
| Species code: | IDILO |
| Taxonomy: | Bacteria; Proteobacteria; Gammaproteobacteria; Alteromonadales; Idiomarinaceae; Idiomarina (TaxID: 283942) [NEWT/ NCBI] |
| Description: | Idiomarina loihiensis is a gamma-proteobacterium isolated recently from a hydrothermal vent at 1300-m depth on the Loihi submarine volcano in Hawaii. In contrast to obligate anaerobic vent hyperthermophiles, it inhabits partially oxygenated cold waters at the periphery of the vent and can survive a wide range of growth temperatures (from 4 degrees to 46 degrees Celsius) and salinities. I.loihiensis probably relies primarily on amino acid fermentation rather than on saccharolytic pathways for carbon and energy. |
