| HAMAP: Korarchaeum cryptofilum (strain OPF8) complete proteome |
| Species code: | KORCO |
| Taxonomy: | Archaea; Korarchaeota; Candidatus Korarchaeum (TaxID: 374847) [NEWT/ NCBI] |
| Description: | This hyperthermophilic organism was isolated from sediment and hot spring samples from Obsidian Pool, Yellowstone National Park, USA. It grows best at about 85 degrees Celsius, under strictly anaerobic conditions at pH 6.5. As it is at present uncultured it was assembled from whole genome shotgun sequencing. Cells hybridizing to probes specific to the DNA sequences were ultrathin filaments under 0.2 um in diameter with an average length of 15 um, although cells were observed with lengths up to 100 um. There is a paracrystalline S layer surrounding the cells. The predicted gene set suggests that K.cryptofilum grows heterotrophically, using a variety of peptide and amino acid degradation pathways. |
