| Description: | Methanococcus aeolicus (strain Nankai-3 / ATCC BAA-1280) is an anaerobic archaeon of the phylum Euryarchaeota. It was isolated from deep marine sediment from the Nankai Trough off the coast of Japan. This organism is a methanogen, able to use hydrogen or formate to reduce CO2. Strain Nankai-3 is the type strain and will be used for comparative analysis. |
