| Species code: | METFK |
| Taxonomy: | Bacteria; Proteobacteria; Betaproteobacteria; Methylophilales; Methylophilaceae; Methylobacillus (TaxID: 265072) [NEWT/ NCBI] |
| Description: | Methylobacillus flagellatus (strain KT / ATCC 51484 / DSM 6875) is a rod-shaped, motile, aerobe beta-proteobacterium. It is an obligate methylotrophe. Methylobacillus flagellatus grows very well with methanol or methylamine as the sole source of carbon and energy. It can be used in biotechnology for efficient conversion of methanol into biomass, as well as for production of various bioorganic compounds. It is a representative of the third major group of methylotrophs, the ribulose monophosphate pathway methanol-utilizers found in the beta-proteobacteria. |
