General information

Species:  Methanosaeta thermophila (strain DSM 6194 / PT) (Methanothrix thermophila (strain DSM 6194 / PT))
Species code: METTP
Taxonomy: Archaea; Euryarchaeota; Methanomicrobia; Methanosarcinales; Methanosaetaceae; Methanosaeta (TaxID: 349307) [NEWT/ NCBI]
Description: Methanosaeta thermophila (Methanothrix thermophila) is an anaerobic and thermophilic bacterium present in many environments, such as anaerobic digesters, anaerobic biofilms, sediments, and anaerobic sludges. M. thermophila can metabolize acetate into methane by reducing the methyl group to CH4 with electrons derived from oxidation of the carbonyl group to CO2. It could be useful as a producer of biofuels.
Properties: Presence of flagella: No
Human pathogen: No
Interaction: No
Number of membranes: 1
Statistics: Number of METTP entries in UniProtKB: 1673 (178 in UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot + 1495 in UniProtKB/TrEMBL)
