| Description: |
Bacteria from the Pelodyctyon genus are obligate anaerobic, phototrophic and nonmotile organisms. They contain gas vacuoles as well as photosynthetic pigments located in the cytoplasmic membrane and the chlorosomes. They require vitamin B1 for growth. They live in hydrogen sulfide-containing water and mud of freshwater, brackish water, and marine environments. Cells of Pelodictyon luteolum are rod-shaped and ovoid and are found as single cells or aggregates. |
