| Species code: | PYRKO |
| Taxonomy: | Archaea; Euryarchaeota; Thermococci; Thermococcales; Thermococcaceae; Thermococcus (TaxID: 69014) [NEWT/ NCBI] |
| Description: | Pyrococcus kodakaraensis KOD1 (Thermococcus kodakaraensis KOD1), has been isolated from a solfatara on Kodakara Island, Kagoshima, Japan. It is a hyperthermophile organism, which grows between 65 and 100 degrees Celsius. The members of the Thermococcus genus are ubiquitously present in natural high-temperature environments, and are therefore considered to play a major role in the ecology and metabolic activity of microbial consortia within hot-water ecosystems. |
