| Description: |
The syntrophic benzoate degrader Syntrophus aciditrophicus (strain SB) is a new, strictly anaerobic, Gram-negative, nonmotile, non-sporeforming, rod-shaped bacterium that degrades benzoate and certain fatty acids (saturated and unsaturated) to acetate, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and possibly formate in syntrophic association, or not, with hydrogen/formate-using methanogen microorganisms or a sulfate reducer. |
