| Description: |
Thermosipho africanus (strain TCF52B) is a rod-shaped, thermophilic, anaerobic bacterium isolated from produced fluids of a high temperature oil reservoir in the North Sea using fish-waste as the only substrate. It has the characteristic morphology of one or more cells contained in a sheath-like envelope which extends beyond the cell wall. Preliminary sequencing of Thermotogales genomes has identified extensive horizontal gene transfer between these organisms and the Archaea. |
