HAMAP: Vibrio fischeri (strain MJ11) complete proteome
General information

Species:  Vibrio fischeri (strain MJ11)
Species code: VIBFM
Taxonomy: Bacteria; Proteobacteria; Gammaproteobacteria; Vibrionales; Vibrionaceae; Aliivibrio (TaxID: 388396) [NEWT/ NCBI]
Description: Bacteria of the genus Vibrio are common and abundant in microbial communities associated with marine animals where they influence their hosts in important ways, either as coevolved beneficial symbionts or by causing diseases such as coral bleaching. These Vibrio-host interactions appear to play a critical role in the survival and dissemination of these bacteria in the marine environment.

The marine bacterium Vibrio fischeri is a specific symbiont in the light-emitting organs of certain squids and fishes where it produces luminescence through the expression of the lux operon. Luminescence is controlled by acyl-homoserine lactone quorum sensing. Strain MJ11 was collected in Japan.
Properties: Presence of flagella: Yes
Human pathogen: No
Interaction: Animal symbiont in fish and squid
Number of membranes: 2
Number of inteins:0
Statistics: Number of VIBFM entries in the UniProt Knowledgebase: 4034 (447 in UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot + 3587 in UniProtKB/TrEMBL)
