HAMAP: Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri (Citrus canker) complete proteome
General information

Species:  Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri (Citrus canker)
Species code: XANAC
Taxonomy: Bacteria; Proteobacteria; Gammaproteobacteria; Xanthomonadales; Xanthomonadaceae; Xanthomonas (TaxID: 92829) [NEWT/ NCBI]
Description: The Xanthomonadaceae are a family of Gram negative bacteria belonging to the order Xanthomonadales in the gammaproteobacteria. They are typically characterized as environmental organisms and are found in soil and water, as well as plant tissues. Many Xanthomonadaceae, especially species from the genera Xanthomonas and Xylella, cause plant diseases. Only one, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, has isolates known to be opportunistic human pathogens.

Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri causes citrus canker, which affects most commercial citrus cultivars, resulting in significant losses worldwide. Symptoms include canker lesions, leading to abscission of fruit and leaves and general tree decline.
