| HAMAP: Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (strain 8004) complete proteome |
| Species code: | XANC8 |
| Taxonomy: | Bacteria; Proteobacteria; Gammaproteobacteria; Xanthomonadales; Xanthomonadaceae; Xanthomonas (TaxID: 314565) [NEWT/ NCBI] |
| Description: | The Xanthomonadaceae are a family of Gram negative bacteria belonging to the order Xanthomonadales in the gammaproteobacteria. They are typically characterized as environmental organisms and are found in soil and water, as well as plant tissues. Many Xanthomonadaceae, especially species from the genera Xanthomonas and Xylella, cause plant diseases. Only one, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, has isolates known to be opportunistic human pathogens. Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris causes black rot, which affects crucifers such as Brassica and Arabidopsis. Symptoms include marginal leaf chlorosis and darkening of vascular tissue, accompanied by extensive wilting and necrosis. Strain 8004 is a spontaneous rifampicin-resistant strain derived from X.campestris pv. campestris NCPPB No 1145. |
