FUNCTION: Peptide chain release factor 2 directs the termination of translation in response to the peptide chain termination codons UGA and UAA (By similarity).
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cytoplasm (By similarity).
case <FT:1>
PTM: Methylated by PrmC. Methylation increases the termination efficiency of RF2 (By similarity).

| Comments: |
In about 70% of bacterial genomes the mRNA encoding RF-2 has 2 partially overlapping reading frames. Synthesis of full-length RF-2 requires +1 frameshifting at the end of the first open reading frame, usually on a UGA codon. This frameshifting serves an autoregulatory function; when RF-2 levels are low frameshifting occurs and full-length protein is produced. |
