Data class Protein
Names GatE

Identifier GATE
Protein name
RecName: Full=Glutamyl-tRNA(Gln) amidotransferase subunit E;
Short=Glu-ADT subunit E;
EC=6.3.5.-;
Gene name gatE
FUNCTION: Allows the formation of correctly charged Gln-tRNA(Gln) through the transamidation of misacylated Glu-tRNA(Gln) in organisms which lack glutaminyl-tRNA synthetase. The reaction takes place in the presence of glutamine and ATP through an activated gamma-phospho-Glu-tRNA(Gln). The GatDE system is specific for glutamate and does not act on aspartate (By similarity).
CATALYTIC ACTIVITY: ATP + L-glutamyl-tRNA(Gln) + L-glutamine = ADP + phosphate + L-glutaminyl-tRNA(Gln) + L-glutamate.
SUBUNIT: Heterodimer of GatD and GatE (By similarity).
SIMILARITY: Belongs to the GatB/GatE family. GatE subfamily.
