| RecName: |
Full=L-ectoine synthase; EC=4.2.1.108; |
| AltName: |
Full=N-acetyldiaminobutyrate dehydratase; |
|
FUNCTION: Catalyzes the circularization of gamma-N-acetyl-alpha,gamma-diaminobutyric acid (ADABA) to ectoine (1,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2-methyl-4-pyrimidine carboxylic acid), which is an excellent osmoprotectant (By similarity).
CATALYTIC ACTIVITY: N(4)-acetyl-L-2,4-diaminobutanoate = L-ectoine + H(2)O.
PATHWAY: Amine and polyamine biosynthesis; ectoine biosynthesis; L-ectoine from L-aspartate 4-semialdehyde: step 3/3.
SIMILARITY: Belongs to the ectoine synthase family.
GO:0016836; Molecular function: hydro-lyase activity.
GO:0019491; Biological process: ectoine biosynthetic process.
