Comments [?]

case <OC:Bacteria>
Function Converts GTP to 7,8-dihydroneopterin triphosphate.
Catalytic activity GTP + H(2)O = formate + 2-amino-4-hydroxy-6-(erythro-1,2,3-trihydroxypropyl)-dihydropteridine triphosphate.
Pathway Cofactor biosynthesis; 7,8-dihydroneopterin triphosphate biosynthesis; 7,8-dihydroneopterin triphosphate from GTP; step 1/1.
end case
case <OC:Archaea>
Function Converts GTP to 7,8-dihydro-D-neopterin 2',3'-cyclic phosphate, the first intermediate in the biosynthesis of coenzyme methanopterin.
Catalytic activity GTP + H(2)O = formate + 7,8-dihydro-D-neopterin 2',3'-cyclic phosphate + diphosphate.
Cofactor Fe(2+)
Note: Binds 1 Fe(2+) ion per subunit.
Pathway Cofactor biosynthesis; 5,6,7,8-tetrahydromethanopterin biosynthesis.
Subunit Homodimer.
end case
Similarity Belongs to the GTP cyclohydrolase IV family.

Comments The bacterial GTP cyclohydrolases of this family share the same function as the GTP cyclohydrolases of the MF_00223 family (GTP cyclohydrolases 1), without having any sequence homology. They are orthologs to the archaeal GTP cyclohydrolases (mptA), which have a new catalytic activity that is different from that of the bacterial cyclohydrolases.
