Identifier, protein and gene names [?]

Identifier ZAPA
Protein name RecName: Full=Cell division protein ZapA;
AltName: Full=Z ring-associated protein ZapA;
Gene name Name=zapA;

Comments [?]

FUNCTIONActivator of cell division through the inhibition of FtsZ GTPase activity, therefore promoting FtsZ assembly into bundles of protofilaments necessary for the formation of the division Z ring. It is recruited early at mid-cell but it is not essential for cell division.
SUBUNITHomodimer. Interacts with FtsZ.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATIONCytoplasm. Note=Localizes at mid-cell.
SIMILARITYBelongs to the ZapA family. Type 1 subfamily.

Comments Due to the high divergence of ZapA sequences, this family includes mostly members from the enterobacteria. There is a 3D-structure available for ZapA from Pseudomonas aeruginosa; this protein is not a member of this family though it probably has the same function; the information derived from the structure was included in this rule.
