Comments [?]

FUNCTIONGas vesicles are hollow, gas filled proteinaceous nanostructures found in some microorganisms. During planktonic growth they allow positioning of the organism at a favorable depth for light or nutrient acquisition. GvpA forms the protein shell.
SUBUNITThe gas vesicle shell is 2 nm thick and consists of a single layer of this protein. It forms helical ribs nearly perpendicular to the long axis of the vesicle.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATIONGas vesicle shell.
SIMILARITYBelongs to the gas vesicle GvpA family.
